DIARYBYLINE: Selim Algar and Jeremy Olshan BODY:NOTHING could get Russell Simmons down Sunday night. Nothing except The New York Times. The hip-hop mogul was all smiles as he and his wife, Kimora Lee, celebrated their Baby Phat and Phat Farm fashion lines at a bash at the Star Room in Wainscott, until a well-meaning, albeit badly timed, query from a Times scribe briefly stopped the music. Still fuming over a May 16 article that details a deposition in a case involving a former partner - a deposition in which Simmons admitted to deliberately inflating the company's sales to help business - the rap entrepreneur was in no mood to make small talk, even if the reporter was guilty only by association. Simmons, who told the Times he misspoke at the deposition, said the article was a big phat misrepresentation. The multiplatinum- record producer battled the paper of record in the parking lot for several minutes before going back to the revelry - which did live up to all the hype - as though nothing had happened. "I just couldn't be more excited about how things are going," Simmons told Diary, returning to the subject of his new line of sneakers, pairs of which were being given away. He also made sure to put in a plug for his brother Rev. Run's new album and upcoming reality show, "Run's House." On the other side of the Star Room, designer and PoweR Boy Jonathan Cheban showed off the latest T-shirt design from his label, Clarendon, worn by the likes of Nicole Richie, Molly Simms, Justin Timberlake and Cheban's new understudy, Simon Huck. Meanwhile, Knick star Stephon Marbury showed off his defensive skills by boxing out all comers in order to carve out a corner of the club to himself. A frequent visitor to the Hamptons, Marbury said the area provides an opportunity to get away from his hectic life. "Just chillin'," he said. Marbury was among the crowd that closed out the club at 4 a.m., driving off in a Rolls-Royce SUV equipped with a wide-screen plasma TV and fully loaded with a sexy entourage. The beats for Sunday's gathering - sponsored by Intrigue Liqueur - were provided by DJ Cassidy, whose turntable skills first caught the attention of Kimora Lee when he was 19. A regular at spots like Marquee, Cassidy called it an honor to perform for the Def Jam founder. "Hip-hop is my first love," he said. "To be able to do this for someone like Russell is great." * Hamptons Magazine publisher Jason Binn followed up his Saturday-afternoon soiree with a second gala Sunday night, in honor of cover girl and "The Closer" star Kyra Sedgwick and hubby Kevin Bacon. The partygoers crammed into Cain at Cabana. Nicole Miller, Dan Abrams, Roberta Myers and Dylan Lauren attended an East Hampton screening of "The Lords of Dogtown," the new skateboarding film from Tri Star Pictures, and were joined by Sony honchos Rob Wiesenthal and Nicole Seligman at the afterparty held at Blue Parrot. * What highly anticipated East End eatery's grand opening was followed shortly by two cases of food poisoning? * You'd think Godzilla is en route, considering the way pedestrians flee Southampton Village's Main Street come sundown. In an effort to inject the area with a bit of after-dark bustle, merchants are lobbying for the right to install sidewalk cafes and asking each other to stay open until 9 p.m. over major weekend holidays.
